I’m Sally Calder, a registered Nutritionist, Nutrigenomics Practitioner and Educator. I am pleased to share information about my background, interests and ways in which I can help you achieve your wellness goals.
Slim & Tonic was born
I had found my life’s passion. In 2015 I qualified with a diploma in clinical nutrition, with a special interest in applying the functional medicine model to help prevent metabolic diseases, such as Type 2 diabetes. With health education being my main passion, I continue with regular training and education to stay on the forefront of the science in these areas. I have recently completed the LifecodeGx Nutrigenomics Practitioner Programme (2022).
Nutrigenomics is a subset of genomics that focuses on genes that relate and respond to nutrition, physical activity, sleep and psychosocial factors.
I regularly attend educational events and follow valuable developments of professionals in the field. There are too many proponents to credit them all, but the ones I have found most useful throughout my research are Dr Trudi Deakin, Dr Aseem Malhotra, Dr Zoe Harcombe, Dr. David Unwin, and Tim Spector.
Immune health and the influence of different foods on the gut microbiome (gut health) are also areas of specialisation, as they are integral areas to my holistic approach.

My relationship with food began very early in my childhood, being born in to a third generation of family bakers. It is no surprise that I grew up with an innate interest in food, and with that came a tendency to overindulge!
This interest intensified when, like many teenagers, I experienced weight gain. This led to discovering that fad diets and restrictive eating plans were unsuccessful but my interest in food remained. I found myself wanting to know more about nutrition and associated health issues. My journey towards extending my knowledge base, and decreasing my waistline began! Each step took me a little closer to the holistic understanding of nutrition I have today: how what we eat, and lifestyle factors, work together to dramatically influence our physical and mental health and sense of wellbeing.
My focus
My focus is specifically on improving metabolic health markers, helping to reduce health risks that are to linked to obesity. I like to work with clients on a one-to-one basis, supplementing this work with the presentation of cookery and nutrition courses to small groups. This gives each client the choice of delving deep into their own health concerns individually or, join a small group with similar goals.
My approach
We are all unique, and respond very differently to foods, the environment we are in, lifestyle choices and exercise. The very reason a one size fit’s all approach doesn’t work.
Working with LifecodeGx and their cutting-edge genomics science I can offer professional, ethical DNA testing and analysis. Their specialist nutrigenomics DNA test panels inform how inherited health risks can be mitigated through personalised nutrition and changes in lifestyle. Occasionally, for more complex cases I use a range of in-depth diagnostic functional tests, this helps to identify the root causes of illness or dysfunction and ultimately enables a totally personalised, preventative and proactive approach to your health.
My goal
My goal is to empower you to take charge of your health. I aim to help you gain greater control and confidence over the decisions and actions that affect your wellbeing.
